With “The Hangover Part II” and “Bridesmaids” cleaning up at the box office expect to see an uptick in wedding party based movies, each with a slightly different twist. If there is anything Hollywood is great at, it’s taking something audiences find fresh and funny and then bombarding them with it.
Variety reports that Reese Witherspoon will produce and possibly star in “Who Invited Her?“. Pitched by Sascha Rothchild who will write the screenplay, and picked up by DreamWorks for a cool six-figures, the story centers on a woman who tags along to guy’s bachelor party. Sony and Paramount also threw their hat in the ring for the film that is being described — surprise, surprise — as being similar in tone to “Bridesmaids.”
Witherspoon will probably wait to see what the script looks like before jumping on board, but something a bit more outrageous would be a good chance of pace for the actress who seems to be vacillating between lukewarm dramas and tepid romcoms these days. She does have “This Means War” with Chris Pine and Tom Hardy on the way, but that said, it’s directed by McG so who knows how that will turn out.
