Matt Dillon No Longer Attached
Being cast as the lead in Sofia Coppola‘s “Somewhere” didn’t immediately seem to give Stephen Dorff the big career boost that he might have hoped, mainly due to the film being a hollow, tedious experience. But the actor, who for some time had languished in DTV hell, is certainly on the up, with roles in Tarsem‘s “Immortals” and the Emile Hirsch indie “The Motel Life” on the way, and it seems to have legitimized the actor as a leading man in the independent world again.
Variety reports that Dorff has signed to replace Matt Dillon as the lead of “Boot Tracks,” which marks the return of “Dahmer” director David Jacobson for the first time since 2004’s undervalued neo-Western “Down in the Valley.” And the actor is joined by two other biggish names, in the shape of “Source Code” star Michelle Monaghan, and great British character actor Ray Winstone.
Dorff will play Charlie Rankin, an ex-con who teams with a former porn star (Monaghan) to seek revenge on a pair of individuals from his past. Winstone will play The Buddha, a former prison associate of Charlie. Matthew F. Jones, writer of the upcoming “A Single Shot” (which Jacobson was once attached to), has adapted his own book for the screen.
It’s a relatively promising cast, and we’ve been looking forward to a new project from Jacobson for some time, so this is certainly one to stick a pin in and keep an eye on. There’s no word on when the project might film, but we assume now that the principles are set, it’ll be in the next few months.
