Susan Sarandon Sexes Up ‘I Hate You, Dad’

On the one hand, Adam Sandler comedies have become nothing more than big paycheck gigs for the actor to make funny voices and fart noises while someone films him doing stuff for a month and then cobbles it together later into something resembling a “movie.” On the other hand, the cast of his next effort, “I Hate You, Dad,” is so willfully bonkers we know we’re going to end up watching it anyway.

THR reveals that Susan Sarandon is the latest name to join a cast, that in addition to Sandler, features Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, Ian Ziering, Vanilla Ice, James Caan, Will Forte, Milo Ventimiglia and more. The film will find Sandler playing Samberg’s father who moves in with his son shortly before his wedding and finds himself falling out with the bride-to-be (Meester). RUH-ROH. In a bid to duplicate the success of Neil Patrick Harris in the ‘Harold & Kumar‘ franchise, Ziering is going to play a drug-addled version of himself while Mr. Van Winkle will portray a gay wedding coordinator. As for Sarandon, she will play a sexy teacher who ends up being Samberg’s Mom. Apparently it’s a key role with the studio being very picky about who they get. Considering everyone else in the picture, it appears this is the only role they’ve had quality control measures on.

Sean Anders and John Morris—the guys who brought you “Sex Drive,” “She’s Out of My League” and “Hot Tub Time Machine”—will be directing. Our only hope in the film lies in the script which was given a re-write by David Wain and Ken Marino, but we’re sure Adam Sandler’s staff of comedy writers will destroy it and bring it down to his sub-juvenile level.

The movie shoots this summer in Boston and hits theaters on June 15, 2012.
