That Geek From ‘Avatar’ To Play A Nerd In Oliver Stone’s ‘Savages’

Some actors strive to create a diverse array of work, dipping toes in multiple genres, disappearing in a vast array of different characters. And then there are others who find their niche and stick with it. Such is the case of Joel David More. The tall, skinny geek from “Avatar,” who will play a dweeb in “Shark Night 3D” has lined up another dorky part.

THR reports that Moore has joined Oliver Stone‘s drug cartel thriller “Savages.” Based on the best-selling crime novel by Don Winslow with a script by Winslow, Stone and Shane Salerno, the plot follows a pair of Laguna Beach drug dealers forced to work for a Mexican cartel after the girl they share is kidnapped. Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch lead the cast with Blake Lively as the girl, Uma Thurman as her mother, Salma Hayek as the leader of the cartel, Benicio Del Toro as her main enforcer, John Travolta as a burnt-out DEA agent, Demian Bichir as a double-crossing attorney who represents Hayek’s cartel and Emile Hirsch in an unnamed role. Moore will play — wait for it — a computer nerd who gets involved in the marijuana biz.

Filming begins later this year, with a September 28, 2012 release date set.
