The Duplass Brothers’ ‘Jeff Who Lives At Home’ With Jason Segel & Ed Helms Lands March 2, 2012

Well, finally some good news on the horizon for the long completed, long awaited Duplass Brothers film “Jeff Who Lives At Home” starring Jason Segel and Ed Helms and produced by Jason Reitman. Firstly, the film will arrive at TIFF in September and now, Paramount Vantage, who acquired the film a while ago, have at long last set a date: March 2, 2012.

Co-starring Judy Greer and Susan Sarandon, the story centers on two brothers— one who is going through a mid-life crisis (Helms) and believes his wife (Greer) is having an affair, and the other a lovable loser pothead (Segel) still living with his mom (Sarandon) — as they set out to spy on the wife, a journey with all sorts of unintended consequences. This is one we’re particularly looking forward to especially in the wake of the directing duo’s excellent “Cyrus” last year, a film that was darker, funnier and more moving that a surface look would indicate. We’re hoping they weave some of that magic again this time around. However, this isn’t the only film by the brothers sitting on a shelf waiting to see the light of day.

They’ve also got the sports-comedy “The Do-Deca-Pentathalon” which is completed and was purchased last year by a mystery studio but still remains under wraps. Starring Duplass regular Steve Zissis (“Baghead“) and Mark Kelly (“Mad Men“), the film was shot all the way back in April of 2008 and was in post-production before being putting on the back-burner and seems to be still left there. The story sounds more in the vein of their “mumblecore” work (for lack of a better term) and follows two brothers who compete in their own private 25-event Olympics that no one else is allowed to view or compete in. That actually sounds rad, but it remains in the dark.

‘Jeff’ will open on a weekend that will see “The Lorax” and “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” also hitting theaters, so it will definitely be the only option (thus far) for those looking to laugh. [Deadline]
