‘Underworld: Awakening’ Draws Blood On January 20, 2012; ‘The Seventh Son’ Lands February 15, 2013

Yep, a couple of release date and title updates, so get out the Liquid Paper.

First up, for the five or six people that actually care, a fourth “Underworld” movie is actually happening and it now has a title. Sit down for this: “Underworld: Awakening.” Ooooooooo. Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein — best known for the Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers straight-to-DVD thriller “Shelter” — are tag-teaming in the director’s chair in the film that will once again find Kate Beckinsale making nerds drool in her skintight getup as she fights various creatures in some battle between Vampire and Lycan clans something something blah blah blah zzzzzz. Anyway, it opens in the dead zone of January 20, 2012, which is appropriate. Let’s see if can fight off Steven Soderbergh‘s “Haywire” or Daniel Radcliffe‘s “The Woman In Black,” which are also opening the same weekend.

Meanwhile, in more interesting tentpole news, “The Seventh Son,” based on Joseph Delaney‘s popular “The Last Apprentice” series, will now hit in the distant future world of February 15, 2013. Will we have flying cars by then? The story centers on Tom (Ben Barnes), the seventh son of a seventh son in the 1700s who discovers he has the ability to see creatures of the dark, and trains to become a ‘Spook’ in order to fight evil. Jeff Bridges will play Master Gregory, a grizzled witch-hunter who trains Tom, while Julianne Moore is lined up as the villain, Mother Malkin, who sucks the blood out of young women to keep her youth. Alicia Vikander will play Alice who joins Tom in his journey. ”Mongol” director Sergey Bodrov will stand behind the camera for the project that is gearing up to shoot late summer/early fall. Ordinarily, this kind of thing wouldn’t interest us in the slightest but that cast is pretty first rate. [ComingSoon/Box Office Mojo]
