Watch: 4 Clips From Terrence Malick’s ‘The Tree Of Life’

It’s hard to believe it was just over a week ago that we finally saw Terrence Malick‘s “The Tree Of Life” when it made its long awaited premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. While we did have some issues with the film, which we elaborated on in our review, of any film we saw at Cannes, it’s still one that we’re thinking about and eager to catch again as soon as possible (in fact, one of our writers has already seen it twice and recommends a second viewing).

With the film beginning its rollout this weekend, four new clips have hit the web at various outlets and have been compiled by RopeOfSilicon. They each offer a fresh glimpse of the layered film, one that tackles the big questions of the cosmos, intimate struggles of young man coming-of-age and the disappointment of dashed dreams. We’ll warn you, for the Malick purists out there, these clips may be revealing too much so if you want to go in fresh stop reading here and move on. For the rest of us, this roughly four minutes of footage gives a bigger portrait of Brad Pitt‘s uneasy relationship with his son (played by newcomer Hunter McCracken in a powerful performance) and the overall doctrine he lives by. It also gives us a brief look at Sean Penn‘s small role in the movie as the older version of Jack living in an alienating urban environment.

“The Tree Of Life” will open in New York and Los Angeles on May 27th, continuing to expand through June and July. Check out the clips below.
