EXCLUSIVE: There is perhaps no greater Cinderella story this year on the indie circuit than that of actress, writer and producer Brit Marling. Arriving at Sundance with two films, “Another Earth” and “Sound Of Your Voice,” performing triple duties on each film, she soon saw major buzz surround both works, with Fox Searchlight picking up rights for the pair, and the former flick earning two prizes for director Mike Cahill. Certainly not a bad way to make your entrance into Hollywood. Well, “Another Earth” will be the first film out of the gate for the studio and Marling, and as it arrives in theaters this weekend, we’re proud to present a new featurette with Marling talking about her unique picture, the character she plays with bits of footage from the film giving you taste of what’s to come.
In the film, Marling plays Rhoda, a troubled young woman who is released from prison after serving a four year sentence for a fatal drunk driving incident. She eventually comes into the life of the grieving father John (William Mapother) whose child she killed, and on top of all of this, the world is coming to grips with a mirror version of Earth that has appeared in the sky, hidden behind the Sun. It’s an intriguing and unique mix of genres, but Marling and Cahill navigate the material with ease, creating one of the most fascinating films we’ve seen so far this year. Our SXSW review said it was a fine drama coupled with “an eerie genre background” and an “unshakable vibe that follows you long after you left the theater.”
So, if you’re looking for an superhero antidote this weekend, “Another Earth” should certainly fit the bill. It opens on July 22nd in limited release and will continue to roll out in weeks to come. Check out the video below.
