Watch: Red Band Trailer For ‘Attack The Block,’ Believe It

While J.J. Abrams proved you could hold back the steak at the monster movie BBQ and still bring in fans, when you’re a much smaller-budgeted Brit alien invasion flick with even smaller names leading the cast, you gotta do whatever you can to get people out. So while some may whine that the new red band trailer for “Attack The Block” shows far too much, just remember they are trying to get people to see a movie that, outside of geek circles and those lucky enough to see the film already, nobody has ever heard of.

In case you’re late to the game, the film is partly inspired by a carjacking director Joe Cornish suffered in 2001, and partly by both M. Night Shyamalan‘s “Signs” and John Sayles’ unmade script “Dark Skies.” Mixing newcomers, most notably John Boyega and Alex Esmail, as leads Moses and Pest, with more established names like Jodie Whittaker, Nick Frost and Luke Treadaway the film tells the tale of a gang of teens who protect their hood from an onslaught of invading aliens all powered by an awesome Basement Jaxx soundtrack. The film was a massive success at SXSW — we absolutely loved it and named it one our favorite films of the festival — and while it’s already hit cinemas in U.K. it won’t be long until the U.S. gets a chance to see what we’re on about.

Screen Gems picked up the movie and it’s now scheduled for a July 29th release. Check out the foul mouthed, scary insanity below. [via FirstShowing]
