If you need the complete history lesson you can read it right here, but it’s been seven long years since Alexander Payne‘s last feature film, the smash hit “Sideways,” but it looks like he hasn’t lost one iota of his fine touch for character.
The trailer has landed for his long awaited next feature “The Descendants” and quite simply — it looks great. Co-written by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, the film follows the story of a wealthy Hawaiian man named Matt King (George Clooney), who takes his daughters (Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller) on a road trip to find the man his wife has been having an affair with after a boating accident leaves her critically injured. Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Judy Greer, a cold-cocking Robert Forster, Mary Birdsong and Nick Krause co-star in what looks to be another perfectly pitched character piece. Clooney in particular looks very strong, looking like he’s nailed another everyman role a with funny, slightly sour turn.
Oscar season will come calling for “The Descendants” when it opens on December 6th. Check out the trailer below via ComingSoon or in HD at Apple.
