First, with Tarsem Singh‘s Snow White movie scheduled to come out next spring, can we get a title already? Having to write “The Untitled Snow White Movie” or “The Project Formerly Known As ‘The Brothers Grimm: Snow White‘” is getting a bit irritating. Second, where can we get that dress?
If Tarsem’s Snow White movie is under a severe time crunch, it’s certainly not showing it in the design department as EW has unveiled the first look at Lily Collins in the titular role and the director’s famed visual style seems to be in full effect. Starring Julia Roberts as the Queen, Sean Bean as the King and Armie Hammer as Prince Andrew Alcott, the story, written by Melissa Wallack and Jason Keller, will strike a tone between adventure and comedy with Snow White teaming up with a pack of seven dwarfs to take on her evil stepmother who has destroyed the kingdom and killed her father. It’s the first of two versions of the fairy tale on the way with Universal mounting their “Snow White And The Huntsman” this fall, but at least in the costume design department, Tarsem has scored an early point.
So what kind of princess will Collins be? “She’s very much that fairy tale princess we’ve all read about in books. She’s been modernized in a way that she becomes a fighter in the end,” Collins teases about her role to EW.
“They’re competing for the prince in separate ways,” she adds about the story. “The Queen wants to use him to better herself. I’m seeking his help to gain back my kingdom from the Queen. She has her intentions from the start. I go from seeking his help to falling in love, though obviously there’s something of a spark from the beginning.”
Filming is underway in Montreal and movie will open on March 16th.
