Also Attached To Lesbian Thriller ‘Breaking The Girl’
Is there any actress right now hotter than Brit Marling? The darling of the Sundance and SXSW film festivals this year, Marling wrote and starred in two very well-received films “Another Earth” (picked up by Fox Searchlight) and “Sound Of My Voice” — two genre films, with much more going on than their surface loglines suggest. And it looks like Marling is to be riding that wave of success for the next little while at least.
In an interview with Movieline, she reveals, “I’m doing something in April called ‘Arbitrage‘ that I think will be really fun to do, coming in as an actor with nothing to do with the writing or the producing. That’s a lovely experience, to come in and just do that job.” To bring you back up to speed, the financial-world drama is set to be directed by Nicholas Jarecki and it has had some casting bumps along the road. Al Pacino was originally set to star but dropped out of the picture and Eva Green appears to have left as well. We spoke with the actress last week during press rounds for “Cracks” and when we asked about her part in the film, she said the project was “on hold” although that’s not quite true. We reached out to a producer on the film who told us everything is moving forward with the film for a production start of April 11th in New York City. So putting the pieces together, it appears that Marling has replaced Green — in the role of the art dealer mistress of Gere — who is currently prepping to start filming “Dark Shadows” with Tim Burton. Still no word if rapper Drake who was in talks earlier in the year will be joining as well.
But this isn’t all on Marling’s plate right now. As Thompson On Hollywood has uncovered, Marling is also attached to a project called “Breaking The Girl.” The film was recently shopped at the Berlin Film Market — so it’s unclear if it’s received financing or even if it will come together at this point — and seems to be a riff on “Strangers On A Train” following two women who joke they should kill each other’s nemeses. Jamie Babbit is directing.
And Marling’s busy schedule should continue into the summer. She’s planning to reteam with “Sound Of My Voice” director Zal Batmanglij for “The East” a project they wrote together. “We wrote a script last year about anarchists,” Batmanglij told us at SXSW. “It’s called ‘The East.’ It’s about a group of anarchists and a woman who infiltrates the anarchists.” No word yet on casting, but they are hoping all the pieces come together so they can mount the picture.
So plenty on the horizon for the triple threat Marling, and there shouldn’t be any doubt that you’ll be seeing a lot more of her soon.
