Dave Franco Lands Villain Role In ’21 Jump Street,’ Johnny Depp Cameo Brewing

Just a couple of days after Rob Riggle strapped in as the “main villain” in “21 Jump Street,” it looks like he’s getting a colleague in crime.

Deadline reports that James Franco‘s far-less multitasking bro Dave Franco has landed a villain role in the upcoming remake of the ’80s show, playing Eric, a high school student who also happens to be a psycho drug dealer. Amazing. While this is usually the part where we roll our eyes, the film has some decent pedigree behind it. The R-rated adaptation features a script by ‘Scott Pilgrim’ writer Michael Bacall who had previously and excitingly described the pic as “John Hughes meets ‘Bad Boys,’” with “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs” helmers Chris Miller and Phil Lord directing. There is also a pretty great cast lined up with Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube and Brie Larson all on aboard. But the big question is: will Johnny Depp make a cameo in the film based on the show that made him a star?

The answer is apparently yes. During “The Tourist” press rounds, the actor expressed that he’d be game to make a quick appearance but that nobody had called him at the time. Well, it looks like phones were picked up as plans are afoot to get Depp on set for one day to shoot something though the nature of his role is not yet known.

Filming is set to begin later this month, with the film scheduled for a March 16, 2012 release.
