Oh hey, remember “Daredevil“? That’s okay, you might’ve forgotten with all the hubbub about “The Wolverine” over the past few days. As you might recall, David Slade recently signed on to direct the new comic film that was being called “a continuation of the saga,” but it now seems that plain old “reboot” is more appropriate.
The director hit Twitter over the weekend (via MTV) to address the announcement saying, “It will [bear] no relation to the previous Daredevil movie in any way. We are at early planning stages and have not yet discussed any cast.” So you can kibosh those rumors that had Robert Pattinson pegged for the role that didn’t seem to be based on anything other than the fact he starred in “Twilight: Eclipse” which Slade directed. But that’s not all the tweet-happy director revealed.
In another interesting tweet, Slade responded to rumors about his potential involvement in “Deadpool” saying, “Love DEADPOOL, was never engaged in the (quite fantastic) script, last I heard studio was looking at comedy directors. None of my business.”
A comedy director for “Deadpool” marks a definite shift in thinking around the project. Last year, Robert Rodriguez was seriously eying the project until commitments to “Spy Kids 4” forced him to bow out while the latest name to be linked was Swedish commercial director Adam Berg. However, known as the merc with a mouth, a director with a firm grasp of comic timing isn’t exactly surprising either.
Recently, Ryan Reynolds stressed that while he wanted to make the film, scheduling might be an issue. He’s currently lensing “Safe House,” while “The Change-Up” with Jason Bateman shot in late 2010/early 2011 and his next project, “R.I.P.D.,” is rumored to shoot this summer in Boston. After that the only “concrete” project that Reynolds has ostensibly going is “Green Lantern 2,” but he has been quietly circling other projects and who knows, those could be announced later this year as well.
Guess we’ll have to see how this all plays out, but we’d guess a director shortlist for “Deadpool” should surface any day now.
