After suffering bankruptcy, a director exiting the film due to production delays and a sidelining ulcer, Peter Jackson‘s long gestating “The Hobbit” films are set to begin this month and we’re only at the tip of the iceberg of rumors and news that will continue to trickle out in the coming months. My precious indeed.
Respected fansite TheOneRing reports an interesting little nugget which may mean something or nothing, but that is worth some attention. According to their source, New Line has registered the titles “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” and “The Hobbit: An/The Unexpected Journey” prompting speculation that these could indeed be the new monikers for the two films. Of course, the former is actually the full title of the book by J.R.R. Tolkien while the latter is just kinda….dull. We’re of two minds about these: they are likely gonna be met with approval of the Tolkien faithful because it’s very much in that spirit, but as movie titles, they just put us right to sleep. But again, this is all conjecture because for all we know, these could be working titles, or movie tie-in books or god knows what else. So play it cool for now folks.
Anyway, we’re sure we’ll find out soon enough or maybe if you’re down under, you can ask one of the cast members: Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Richard Armitage, Aidan Turner, Rob Kazinsky, Graham McTavish, John Callen, Stephen Hunter, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, James Nesbitt, Ken Stott, Sylester McCoy, Adam Brown, Mikael Persbrandt, Ryan Gage, Jed Brophy, William Kircher, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen. New Zealand isn’t that big and they must hang out somewhere.
The first installment of “The Hobbit” arrives in December 2012 in glorious 3D.
