‘Firefly’ Star Alan Tudyk Joins ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’

Timur Bekmambetov continues to stack up his cast for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”

Variety reports that “Firefly” star and solid comic/character actor Alan Tudyk has come aboard the film in a rather intriguing role. Tudyk will play Stephen A. Douglas, who rivaled Abraham Lincoln in the Senate, and in Seth Grahame-Smith‘s book on which the film is based, vampirism is behind the Civil War with Douglas allied with the Southern vampires. Sounds like a very interesting role for the thesp.

Tudyk joins an extensive cast that includes Benjamin Walker, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Robin McLeavy and Jimmi Simpson in the film based on the faux diaries of the president (Walker) given to the author by a vampire named Henry Sturgess (Cooper). Sturgess saved Lincoln’s life when he battles a vampire as a teenager, and the two become fast friends. Sturgess teaches Lincoln about the history of vampirism, trains him in combat, and sends the president to hunt and kill evil vampires. Mackie will play the president’s best friend, Will, with Winstead playing Mary Todd and McLeavy as Lincoln’s Mom.

And while it would have been pretty cool, despite earlier rumors, Trent Reznor has bowed out of scoring and taking a role in the film. ‘Vampire Hunter’ hits on June 22, 2012.
