No that isn’t Robert De Niro getting ready to accept a film award, present a movie or host the Daytime Emmys. It’s the enigmatic first look at the actor in the upcoming thriller “Red Lights” from “Buried” director Rodrigo Cortes.
Starring De Niro, Sigourney Weaver, Cillian Murphy and with Elizabeth Olsen attached to star, the film follows the story of a psychologist and her assistant whose study of paranormal activity leads them to investigate a world-renowned psychic who is stepping back into the limelight after 30 years. De Niro will play the psychic, Weaver the psychologist with Olsen taking up the role of the assistant and Murphy portraying her love interest.
We weren’t huge fans of “Buried” — its one note concept wasn’t helped by a weak script and novelty direction both of which got stale fast — but this film seems to be raising the stakes on all levels, and with that cast assembled, we’re definitely intrigued. “Red Lights” is currently filming, but no release date has been set.
