Guillermo Del Toro Produced ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’ Hits August 12th Via FilmDistrict

Last year’s sale of Miramax was a long, drawn out and complicated affair and when it was signed and sealed, it left a couple of films scheduled for release, in the lurch however, it looks like they will now see the light of day. John Madden‘s thriller “The Debt” with Sam Worthington, Marton Csokas, Jessica Chastain, Helen Mirren, Ciaran Hinds and Tom Wilkinson was recently picked up by Focus Features and is now set for a bow on August 31st, but the title most people have been anxiously awaiting, the Guillermo Del Toro produced and co-written “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” has now also found a home.

Deadline reports that relatively new, but very active, distribution house FilmDistrict (who will be releasing Nicolas Winding Refn‘s “Drive” and James Wan‘s “Insidious” among others this year) will bring the film to theaters on August 12th. Directed by Troy Nixey and starring Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison, the film — a remake of 1973 TV movie — centers on a family who move into a derelict house, only to experience the unveiling of some terrifying creatures.

The film got a solid response from Comic Con crowds last year and the teaser trailer for the R-rated film is goose-bump raising. Check it out below.
