‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’ Will Hit Theaters On March 2, 2012

We just wrapped up a story about a vampire hunter, so on to some witch hunters instead.

Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures will release “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” — or “Hansel & Gretel 3D,” Deadline vacillates between the two titles — in theaters on March 2, 2012 and yeah, guess that means this thing is gonna be in three dimensions. Hooray. The film stars Gemma Arterton, Jeremy Renner and Famke Janssen in the dark fairy tale revamp written by “All You Need Is Kill” writer D.W. Harper, which follows the sibling pair into adulthood, having survived their early encounter with the gingerbread house, and grown into full-time killers of witches. Arterton and Renner will play the titular brother/sister duo, while Janssen will portray the leader of the pack of witches. Tommy Wirkola (“Dead Snow“) is directing.

MGM has stepped in co-finance the $60 million dollar picture and will handle international television rights, with Paramount taking on worldwide theatrical and domestic TV duties. Not much in the way of competition for ‘Hansel & Gretel’ on March 2nd just yet; the only other scheduled film right now is the big screen adaptation of “The Lorax.”
