It was only a matter of time before Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard were confirmed for Christopher Nolan‘s “The Dark Knight Rises,” but the real surprise here is that the roles are quite different than what had been rumored for the past couple of months.
Warner Bros. have officially announced Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard in the roles of John Blake and Miranda Tate, respectively. The former is a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty by Commissioner Gordon, while the latter is a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham. Hardly The Holiday Killer or Talia al Ghul both had been pegged for, which should definitely keep the rumor mills going about just what Nolan and co. have up their sleeves for the film and how these two roles will fit into the larger arc of the story.
Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard join Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Diego Klattenhoff, Burn Gorman and Nestor Carbonell in the film that gears up to shoot in Pittsburgh later this year. It will hit theaters on July 20, 2012.
