Emma Roberts, Kat Dennings, Portia Doubleday & Addison Timlin Were Also On The Shortlist
We nearly forgot this movie was happening, but there is fresh movement on “Odd Thomas” the next film from Stephen Sommers, and it looks Anton Yelchin — announced last month to star in the film — has found his leading lady.
Variety reports that Lily Collins (yes, daughter of Phil) has been offered the role of Stormy Llewellyn in the upcoming film adaptation, topping a shortlist that also included Emma Roberts, Kat Dennings, Portia Doubleday and Addison Timlin. Based on the book by Dean Koontz, and adapted by Sommers himself, the film follows the titular Thomas, a young short-order cook who’s able to see the dead, who encounters a mysterious man he suspects may be involved in an upcoming atrocity. Stormy is his girlfriend, and is the only person who knows the true extent of his abilities.
Sommers, now free and clear of the “G.I. Joe” sequel, is putting the wheels in motion on this one quickly. And while the material sounds interesting, and will definitely has franchise written all over it — the book has three sequels and two graphic novel-prequels — Sommers track record is frank abysmal so we’re going to keep our expectations at rock bottom. But kudos for putting together a strong cast thus far. For Collins, the casting comes as hot on the heels of flirting with tentpole projects as she’s been eyed recently for “Mortal Instruments” and “Jack The Giant Killer” with nothing ultimately coming to pass.
Lensing on “Odd Thomas” will begin on May 2 in Santa Fe, N.M.
