A couple of directors of acclaimed documentaries are using that success to spring board into narrative feature films, with two intriguing films now in the works.
First up, “Murderball” director Henry-Alex Rubin will take on “Disconnect.” Written by Andrew Stern (“Return To Me“) the film will chronicle “the linked stories of a group of contemporary characters searching for human connection in a wired world.” It’s been six years since “Murderball,” but Rubin hasn’t been sitting around playing idle. He’s got a lot of commercial work under his belt including his award winning “Welcome Back” spot for T-Mobile which you can watch below. “Disconnected” is gearing up to start this fall.
Meanwhile, “The September Issue” director R.J. Cutler is going to stay in the fashion milieu, singing on to adapt and direct “Fabulous Nobodies” by Lee Tulloch. The story is a “social satire set in the 1980s downtown club scene of New York, where a group of people lived and breathed fashion before it took over the world.” Seems right up his alley, frankly. Cutler will be working with screenwriters Mark Fortin and Josh Miller in bringing the story up onto the big screen, but this one isn’t quite ready for cameras and a start date hasn’t yet been set.
