‘National Treasure’ Director Jon Turteltaub Has Some ‘Unreasonable Doubt’

Oof, talk about a car crash of mediocrity. What happens when you pair the director of “National Treasure,” “While You Were Sleeping” and “Instinct” with the writer of “Serendipity” and “A Good Year“? You’re about to find out.

THR reports that Jon Turteltaub has signed on to direct “Unreasonable Doubt” written by Marc Klein. The romantic comedy will center on two jurors who fall in love during a court case. Who knew presiding over a case that requires a jury could be so romantic!?

Given the track record of the behind-the-camera talent involved, we’re not gonna hold our breath that this won’t be strictly run-of-the-mill, but maybe if Turteltaub can get Nic Cage out of whatever generic action thriller he’s making next to dip back into romantic comedy — yes, he did use to play those kinds of parts with a lot of charm — we’ll pay attention. Or maybe just make him be the dude on trial.
