As “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” gears up to go in front of cameras, more obstacles are being put in the way of the lead characters in their quest to kick some witch ass.
Deadline reports that Peter Stormare has joined the cast that currently features Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal. Written by D.W. Harper, the reimagined tale finds the brother and sister duo now as full-time witch hunters, fifteen years after surviving the ordeal at the iconic gingerbread house. Renner and Arterton play the titular siblings, with Berdal as one of the witches and Janssen as the leader of the pack. Stormare is on board as Berringer, a crooked town sheriff. Like “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” this film is also utilizing not-quite-A-list names and character actors to bring the story to life, though Renner is likely to be better known to mainstream America after “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol” hits this December. Audiences will need to be sold on the concept if the studio hopes to get asses in the seats.
Tommy Wirkola (“Dead Snow“) is directing the film which is already slated for a March 2, 2012 release.
