Phillip Noyce To Direct Thriller ‘Hunter Killer’ Written By ‘X-Men: First Class’ Scribe Jamie Moss

Looks like Phillip Noyce is returning for another action picture following “Salt.”

Relativity has announced that Phillip Noyce has signed on to direct the thriller “Hunter Killer.” Based on the book “Firing Point” by George Wallace (a former Navy Commander), the film will tell the story of an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue the Russian president, who has been taken prisoner during a military coup, in an effort to stop a rogue Russian general from igniting World War III. Sounds like some pulpy, nail-biting stuff. The script was penned by the trio of Jamie Moss (“X-Men: First Class“), John Kolvenbach and Arne Schmidt (“Chain Reaction“; producer of “Next” and “Big Fish,” among others).

For Noyce, it sounds like a project that sits very comfortably in the wheelhouse of his past films like “Patriot Games” and “Clear and Present Danger.” No cast has been announced just yet, but there is still some time to get that all put together. Production on the film won’t start until late 2011.
