Also Mark Ruffalo’s ‘Sympathy For Delicious’ & ‘Daydream Nation’
Here’s a quick round up of the latest posters unveiled from a handful of new films with release dates just around the corner. First up, three character posters have hit for David Gordon-Green‘s medieval stoner-comedy “Your Highness” featuring the three leads: Danny McBride, James Franco and Natalie Portman.
The fantastical tale follows the story of an arrogant, lazy prince (McBride) and his more heroic brother (Franco) who must complete a quest in order to save their father’s kingdom. Zooey Deschanel and Justin Theroux also co-star in what sounds like a potentially zany cinematic experience. McBride had previously described the film — which hits on April 8th — as “Krull” meets “Barry Lyndon. We can’t wait.
Also recently unveiled is a new one-sheet for James Gunn‘s twisted superhero flick “Super” which has screened once more at SXSW to decent reviews. The poster is a follow up to the first one released featuring Rainn Wilson, who stars in the pic as an average guy who transforms into pseudo-superhero The Crimson Bolt after his wife Sarah (Liv Tyler) leaves him for a smooth-talking drug dealer named Jacques (Kevin Bacon). But the main event on this latest piece of marketing is Ellen Page who plays Libby aka Boltie, the Crimson Bolt’s sidekick who teams up in vowing to fight crime. “Super” hits theaters on April 1st.
Then there’s the latest for Disney‘s newest entry into its money-spinning “Pirates Of The Carribean” franchise, ‘On Stranger Tides.’ Not much to say about this really other than the fact that the film tracks Johnny Depp‘s iconic Captain Sparrow on his latest adventure chasing the Fountain Of Youth and it will hit theaters on May 20th in 3D. Typical Depp charm and big box office takings are destined.
Finally, gearing more towards the independent crowd, we have posters for Mark Ruffalo‘s directorial debut “Sympathy For Delicious” and Mike Goldbach‘s “Daydream Nation.” Ruffalo’s film features a big name cast including Orlando Bloom, Juliette Lewis, Noah Emmerich, John Carroll Lynch and Laura Linney with music contributions by The Besnard Lakes, Shiny Toy Guns and Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta fame but seemingly falls by the wayside somewhere (if reviews from its festival runs last year are to be believed) in its story of a paraplegic DJ who uncovers an ability to heal. The rest of us will find out this spring when the film hits on April 29th.
“Daydream Nation,” on the other hand, stars the likes of Kat Dennings, Reece Thompson, Andie MacDowell and Josh Lucas and follows a disaffected high school senior (Dennings) who has an affair with a teacher (Lucas) — a teenage junkie and a serial killer come into play somewhere as well. Not much has been heard of the film other than its decent response from TIFF but all will be settled on May 6th when the film sees a limited theatrical release.
