Well, Richard Kelly at least gets an A for effort. Despite them both being critical and box office turds, “The Box” and “Southland Tales” were nothing if not ambitious and we say, if you’re gonna fail, might was as well fail big. That being said, Kelly is wisely stepping away from the supernatural and metaphysical for his next effort, one that will hopefully live up to the promise he displayed in “Donnie Darko.”
Variety reports that Kelly will next direct the thriller “Corpus Christi,” which stills sounds somewhat….convoluted. The story will follow “a mentally unstable Iraq war veteran named Paciencia “Patience” De La Rosa, who forges a strange friendship with his boss Ralph Salverson, the wealthy and politically ambitious owner of a supermarket chain.” Uh, okay then.
Darko Entertainment will produce along with, interestingly, Eli Roth — further financiers are being sought. Things are moving fast on the picture with casting expected to be firmed up by the end of March and shooting to begin in July.
