Robert Luketic To Direct The Heist Pic ‘Brilliant’

Robert Luketic‘s film career has been a decidedly downward trajectory. He made a big splash helming the better-than-it-deserved-to-be Reese Witherspoon comedy “Legally Blonde” and ever since has made one bad picture after another, culminating in a double whammy of awful Katherine Heigl romcoms, “The Ugly Truth” and last year’s abysmal “Killers.” But it looks like Luketic is looking to change things up for his next picture.

Variety reports that Luketic will take on the heist pic “Brilliant” for his next film. Written by Gillian Gorfil (producer of “Blood Diamond“) and Elizabeth Shorten, the story “revolves around a small-time criminal who becomes the protege of the some of the world’s most accomplished thieves as they prepare the biggest diamond heist of all time.”

We’re always up for a good heist flick, but given Luketic’s track record we’re not gonna hold our breath. He sort of dipped his toes in the genre with “21,” a film that took a great premise and turned into what we would image a CW produced con film to look like. Casting is underway for the film, with a start date to be determined.
