Ryan Reynolds Is Going To Play A Superpowered Snail In ‘Turbo’

Ryan Reynolds is no stranger to playing a superhero. As Deadpool he was the best part of the otherwise wretched “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” he’s Hal Jordan in the upcoming “Green Lantern” and he was the imaginary Captain Excellent in “Paper Man.” And while he’s not quite a superhero in “Turbo,” a freak accident still gives his character an enormous ability.

Variety reports that Reynolds will voice the lead role in “Turbo.” And no, it’s not a ripoff of “The Flash.” Instead, the story written by Darren Lemke (“Shrek Forever After”) will center on an ordinary garden snail with an impossible dream: to become the fastest snail in the world. When a freak accident gives him extraordinary speed, Turbo sets out to try to make this dream come true.

The DreamWorks Animation film will be helmed by David Soren (”Merry Madagascar”), making his feature debut, and given that DreamWorks is big on getting celeb voices, don’t expect Reynolds to be the only star power here. The concept sounds a little too cutesy for us, but whatever — we’re not exactly the target demo for this. “Turbo” is already on the DreamWorks Animation slate and will hit on June 7, 2013. And if that isn’t enough Ryan Reynolds voice jazz for you, he’s also lending his pipes to a character in “The Croods,” which hits three months earlier on March 1, 2013.
