Stringer Bell Dresses Up For Halloween In New Picture From ‘Thor’

It’s currently running between “Thor” and “Green Lantern” right now as to which comic movie is going to end up being the goofiest this summer. Admittedly, both are tough stories to bring to mainstream audiences — alien worlds, hammers, green suits, power rings — and while treatments we’ve seen so far have shown evidence of unintentional camp, hopefully the overall tone of the pictures will help sell the more outlandish elements. But until then, random pics like this aren’t helping the non-comic faithful.

Marvel has released a new picture from “Thor” and it features Idris Elba in his full Heimdall regalia. And as big of a fan of Elba as we are, there is something slightly humorous about the pic. Maybe it’s the Kenneth Branagh trademark tilted camera and the bronze hue of everything, but for us, it doesn’t quite feel “Guardian Of The Rainbow Bridge.” We more feel like he’s the guardian of the (eventual) theme park ride. But again, hard to judge without him actually doing anything, but just standing there in a pointy hat and shiny suit? Yeah, not quite feeling it.

Racist idiots have lately made Elba a target of late because he’s *gasp* black and playing a Norse god. Reading those morons is amusing at first and then totally depressing, but Elba recently responded to the criticism saying, “It’s so ridiculous. We have a man [Thor] who has a flying hammer and wears horns on his head. And yet me being an actor of African descent playing a Norse god is unbelievable?” Yeah, we don’t get it either.

“Thor” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Kat Dennings, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, and many more and hits theaters May 6th.
