Yep, more acquisitions from a very busy Sundance Film Festival for buyers this week.
First up, David Mackenzie‘s end-of-the-world love story “Perfect Sense” has found a home with IFC who landed the North American distribution rights for the film. Starring Ewan McGregor and Eva Green, as a chef and an epidemiologist respectively, who embark on a relationship as a crisis plagues the world causing people to lose their sensory perception. And you thought going on blind dates was hard. The film has gotten mostly positive reviews so far out of the fest, with most noting the careful blend of sci-fi, romance and horror in the story. No word on a release date just yet.
Meanwhile, Magnolia has snagged one of the more divisive films of the festival in Mark Pellington‘s no-budget indie “I Melt With You.” As Vulture notes, the walkouts during the press screening were just as numerous as those during “Son Of No One,” while those who stayed, “indulged in unintentional laughter not seen since last year’s so-bad-it’s-good screening of [Joel Schumacher‘s] ‘Twelve.’” Starring Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe, Jeremy Piven, Christian McKay, Carla Gugino and Sasha Grey the film chronicles four dudes who hang out for a weekend, do drugs and revel in their various mid-life crises. Fun!
The film features an astonishingly ace soundtrack — Sex Pistols, X, Cramps, Jane’s Addiction, Jesus And Mary Chain, The Cure, Talking Heads and more — and combined with the teaser clips below we not gonna say we’re not intrigued.
