While Andrew Niccol has worked closely with Stephenie Meyer on the script and was in line to direct, he’s now busy with his sci-fi thriller “Now,” and the task of directing an adapting of the “Twilight” author’s non-Bella-and-Edward-and-Jacob-related book “The Host” has fallen to another.
Variety reports that Susanna White, director of episodes of HBO‘s “Generation Kill” and “Nanny McPhee Returns,” has signed on to helm the film. While there are no vampires, the tale is another supernatural love story, this time set in the near future where alien parasite “souls” benevolently take our the consciousness of humans. One such “soul,” named Wanderer, inhabits the body of a dying woman, Melanie Stryder, who just happens to be obsessed with finding the last group of surviving humans. And thus yet another forbidden love is borne. We’ve never read the book, but we presume it’s like “The Road” meets “V” meets “Romeo & Juliet.”
The film will retain the script by Niccol and no word yet on what studio will come on board, but certainly, producers Nick Wechsler and Chockstone Pictures‘ Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz are hoping the Twihards will be just as excited for this as they are for their beloved Edward and/or Jacob.
