SXSW: New Posters For ‘Source Code’ & ‘The Innkeepers’ Arrive

The SXSW Film Festival will be underway in just under a week and that means thousands of film lovers down in Austin (as well as a few members of The Playlist staff), will be up to their eyeballs in new films. Two films high on our must-see list are Duncan Jones‘ “Moon” follow-up, “Source Code,” and indie horror filmmaker Ti West’s latest “The Innkeepers.” And wouldn’t you know it, both films are debuting new posters just in time for the fest which you can check out below.

While movie theatres across the country are hanging the official “exploding Kinkos” poster, film fans in Austin will be treated to a slightly more sophisticated (and minimalist) version from designer Olly Moss (via JoBlo). If that name (or style) looks familiar, Moss also designed the initial poster for killer tire flick, “Rubber” as well as a series of Rolling Roadshow posters he did for classic films last year including “Rocky,” “The Godfather” and “There Will Be Blood” among others. While some members of The Playlist staff think the whole minimalist design thing is played out, it’s still preferable to a bad Photoshop job any day of the week, especially when done by an expert like Moss.

Ti West has been quietly building a reputation for himself as a low budget horror filmmaker to keep an eye on. His last film “The House Of The Devil” earning particularly solid notices for it’s 80s throwback back-to-basics style (and an incredibly awesome poster from designer Neil Kellerhouse). His latest, “The Innkeepers” about the last two employees at a haunted hotel, has a similarly retro poster by relative newcomer illustrator/designer Tom Hodge who also recently did the poster for “Hobo With A Shotgun.” His website says his aim “is to bring back the lost magic of the video cover and poster art“ and his hand illustrated poster for “The Innkeepers” (via AICN) seems to do just that.

If you can’t manage to nab one of these posters down in Austin, you can probably try your luck on MondoTees in the near future though that’s becoming an increasingly difficult proposition these days. “Source Code” will open SXSW this Friday March 11 and will be in theaters April 1st while “The Innkeepers” will be playing March 12 with a theatrical release yet to be determined.
