With “The Expendables” and “Red,” audiences are telling Hollywood they like watching old people blow shit up. Well, honchos already knew audiences liked watching shit blowing up, but who knew old people could do it too? So there you go, score one for the retirement set. So no surprise after the surprise smash of Sylvester Stallone‘s brainchild, that a sequel is underway. It now has a release date and Lionsgate isn’t messing with what worked the first time around.
A late summer, August 17, 2012 release date has been named which is nearly identical to where it landed last year. The weekend is currently unoccupied with only “G.I. Joe 2” landing the week before, so it should face some relatively slim competition. August tends to be a testing ground, of sorts, where studios dump the movies they’re uncertain about but still have a chance of doing decent biz.
While there have been plenty of rumors, all that’s known currently is that Stallone won’t be writing or directing the film and that Randy Couture is set to return. Bruce Willis and Jean-Claude Van Damme are rumored to be joining the project, but nothing is locked in just yet. [via ComingSoon]
