Tobey Maguire Reteams With Ang Lee For ‘Life Of Pi’

It’s been a while since we’ve had news on either Ang Lee‘s adaptation of Yann Martel‘s “Life of Pi” or on actor Tobey Maguire, but it looks like the two are coming together once again.

Variety reports that Maguire is set to reteam with his “The Ice Storm” and “Ride With the Devil” director Lee on his brewing 3D pic “Life of Pi.” Maguire joins the international cast which features newcomer Suraj Sharma, Gerard Depardieu, Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain and Tabu in the the story of the son of an Indian zookeeper named Pi who is shipwrecked in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and finds himself stuck on a lifeboat with a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Sharma takes on the lead role with Khan playing the adult Pi, Hussain as Pi’s father, Depardieu in the role of The Chef and Tabu as Pi’s Mom, with Maguire as a writer who interviews Pi about his adventures.

While the pieces are gradually coming together, this one is still a bit of way off with a distant December 14, 2012 date set. Maguire has slowed things down post-“Spider-Man” with his last appearance being in Jim Sheridan‘s 2009 drama “Brothers.” But he’s got the irreverent comedy “The Details” — which premiered in January at Sundance — on the way and he’s expected to be taking on a role in Baz Luhrmann‘s “The Great Gatsby” as well.
