Let’s take a trip back in time shall we? Back in the summer of 2009, Tom Arnold said — either sarcastically or delusionally — about a possible “True Lies 2” that, “All I know is Jim Cameron’s making it and Arnold [Schwarzenegger] and I are going to be in it, and it starts shooting in 14 months, the day after Arnold stops being governor of California. It’s not going to be called ‘True Lies II,’ but it might as well be. I can live with that.” Well, that time has since passed and either Arnold was lying, joking or hoping (probably somewhere in the middle of that). Anyway, he recently chatted with Movieweb (via /Film) and once again made some bold claims.
“I have read a great ‘True Lies 2’ script, and I hope we are able to do it. Knock on wood. Arnold Schwarzenegger is excited. I am excited….We have both read the script. There is a script that James Cameron and a guy named Jeff Eastin, who created the TV show ‘White Collar,’ wrote. It is really great. Jim can’t direct it. But he can produce it. We hope it gets done. We have a few fun things we want to do. I am supposed to remain cool about this. For me, it would be a lot of fun to work with the guys again,” Arnold said. And to his credit, at least he’s not putting a start date on the thing.
But by his own admission, Arnie has got plenty of options, revealing recently he has as many as fifteen projects currently on his desk in addition to a comic book movie package that is set to be announced any day now. And of course, James Cameron is tied up with the “Avatar” sequels for the next five years give or take and he won’t be directing. But Arnold reveals that there are already contenders in the mix.
“There is a list of really good directors. There have always been people who were interested in doing it. I let those guys handle that. I put in my two cents,” he said. So a Cameron produced sequel with another helmer on board? Sure we could buy that, but again, the ods on this actually happening are slim.
Anyway, a man can dream right? And when you’re Tom Arnold and you’re doing movies like “Hard Breakers,” “Group Sex” and “Kill Speed” dreams are all you got.
