Tom Cruise Signs On For ‘Rock Of Ages,’ Will Sing Bon Jovi

Finally. After months and months of all sorts of names being linked to “Rock Of Ages,” the biggest one of them all has finally signed on marking the first actual casting for the film.

THR reports that Tom Cruise is in final negotiations to join the adaptation of the ’80s set stage musical about a small town girl who meets a big city rocker and they fall in love to the greatest songs of the era. Cruise will play Stacee Jaxx, a decadent rock star, and his big musical number will be Bon Jovi‘s “Wanted Dead Or Alive.” Seriously. Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand, previously rumored for the film, are apparently still circling but nothing is in place. If they do sign on, Brand would play Lonnie, who runs the rock club The Bourbon, while Baldwin would play Dennis, the owner of the establishment.

With Cruise now on board, we would imagine this will get the rest of the casting deals moving along much more quickly. The Adam Shankman directed film is gearing up to start lensing in May. Frankly, we think ’80s nostalgia is the worst, but with everyone falling in love with singing cornball songs at the top of their lungs (thanks “Glee“) people are gonna love this.
