‘True Grit’ Oscar Nominated Breakout Star Hailee Steinfeld To Star In ‘Forgotten’

The Coen Brothers were blessed with a staggering array of talent for their excellent “True Grit” but none of it would’ve worked were it not for the astounding turn by Hailee Steinfeld. In her first feature film role, Steinfeld shone as the determined Mattie, by turns stubborn and naive, unstoppable and vulnerable. The actress ably performed against some of the most truly talented thesps including Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin, so no surprise that Paramount are eager to keep the on-the-rise actress under their roof.

Deadline reports that the studio has picked up the rights to “Forgotten,” a forthcoming book by Cat Patrick, as a starring vehicle for Steinfeld. The “Memento“-like concept is intriguing, following “London Lane, a 16-year old whose memory is erased at 4:33 every night. The following morning, all she can remember are events from her future. After meeting a new boy at school, London becomes frustrated that she can’t seem to find him in her memory of things to come.”

No word yet on who will pen the adaptation, but Fake Empire‘s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are producing; both have plenty of experience with teen-based material being the producers behind “The O.C.” and “Gossip Girl.” If you want to get a feel for what Steinfeld has signed on for, “Forgotten” will hit shelves in June.
