Nothing Confirmed Just Yet
Update: THR confirms that Marion Cotillard is in discussions for “The Dark Knight Rises” but that “nothing has been confirmed yet.” Christopher Nolan is apparently on the hunt for a love interest for Bruce Wayne with Kate Winslet and the previously linked Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts all reading/meeting with the director in recent weeks. Should Cotillard sign on she would start shooting in June and wrap in November. So this writer’s guess that it might be a smaller role is way off — has Bruce Wayne found his love?
It was probably only a matter of time until this rumor cropped up somewhat legitimately (it has been knocking around for a while), but it’s not everyday that something like this comes from a respected newspaper so it’s worth mentioning.
French paper Le Figaro (via Bleeding Cool) are reporting that Marion Cotillard will be taking a role in Christopher Nolan‘s “The Dark Knight Rises” set to shoot this summer. According to the paper, Cotillard, who is due to give birth this spring to her first child, is electing to only shoot one film in 2011 and it will be the comic franchise helmed by her “Inception” director Nolan. Here’s the excerpt from the paper (translated):
Marion Cotillard in “Batman 3″. The actress, who is expecting a child in the spring with Guillaume Canet, will be scarce this year. She’ll do a single film and her choice fell on Batman 3. This blockbuster produced by Warner Bros.. enables her to work with the director Christopher Nolan, with whom she had turned very successful sci-fi Inception. Marion Cotillard will join the filming this summer in Los Angeles. She will share the bill with Anne Hathaway.
Nothing is certain and we certainly have to ask ourselves: if Cotillard is due in spring and is expecting her first child, will she really leave so soon afterward to make a blockbuster movie? We guess we’ll soon find out. But if we had to make a wager, if she does have a role, we’d reckon it might be something smaller that she can shoot later in the film’s production that won’t keep her away from her new family for too long. It should also be noted that Cotillard recently left David Cronenberg‘s “Cosmopolis” citing a “scheduling conflict” — could “The Dark Knight Rises” be that conflict? Both pictures are scheduled to start shooting in May….
Expect confirmation/denials from studio types soon.
