Watch: A Dinner Date Gets Awkward In Clip From Richard Ayoade’s ‘Submarine’

After earning accolades at TIFF, NYFF and Sundance, anticipation is building for Richard Ayoade‘s “Submarine.” The film stars Paddy Considine, Noah Taylor, Sally Hawkins, Craig Roberts and Yasmin Paige and tells the story of a fifteen year old boy with two goals he wishes to accomplish: lose his virginity and prevent his parents from divorcing.

A clip from the film has arrived and seems to capture the awkward and yes, Hal Ashby and Wes Anderson influenced tone that has been a big part of the talk around the film. But, you know what else? It works, feels fresh and charmed us as well, and we’re more eager than ever to check out (our man at Sundance saw the film and called it a “promising debut“).

The film features original songs by Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and will be released later this year. Whether or not Harvey Weinstein decides to cut it — he was disappointed by recent test screening results — remains to be seen. Check out the clip below.
