Kudos to Sony for playing it smart. A couple of weeks ago they dropped the red-band trailer first for “Bad Teacher,” presenting the film as we’ll see it in theaters, will all the gleefully foul language in place. But movie marketing can’t live on filthy trailers alone, and the standard trailer for the film has now landed, and you know what? It still manages to be pretty funny.
Based a Black Listed script from Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (“The Office,” “Year One”), the film stars Cameron Diaz as a gold-digging teacher who sets her sights on the new substitute teacher (Justin Timberlake) who is the heir to a fortune. The film co-stars Jason Segal, rising star Lucy Punch, John Michael Higgins and “The Office” supporting player Phyllis Smith and is helmed by Jake Kasdan (“Orange County,” “Walk Hard”). No, not all the jokes land, but the overall vibe here is pretty winning and we certainly had a dumb smile on our face watching this. We could see this being a very pleasant 90 minutes in a movie theater.
“Bad Teacher” will open on June 17th. Check out the trailer below.
