A little bit of music and movie roundup to start off your day.
First up, HitFix has dug the trailer for “Talihina Sky” a documentary about rockers Kings Of Leon, and while we have to admit, we’re not really fans of the band’s FM style radio rock, the doc seems to trace the band’s success against their upbringing as firm Pentecostals and looks pretty interesting. But ‘Sky’ also seems trade in the standard dudes puking/drinking/rocking format as well. The work-in-progress film will screen at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month.
And since we’re talking rock docs, we’ll take this moment to bring your attention to the trailer for “Hit So Hard” the movie about Hole drummer Patty Schemel. Yeah, we’re a bit late on this — it premiered last month at SXSW — but the film tracks the rise, fall, battles with addiction and near death of the openly gay drummer for the alt-rock band. Pretty much anyone who has crossed paths or played in the various incarnations of Hole appear; the ’90s feel so long ago.
The comedy-rap stylings of Lonely Island are back for a new album, “Turtlenecks & Chains” and we couldn’t be more excited. The band — comprised of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone — recently hit “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” to reveal their first single and lead track from the album “We’re Back!” and it pretty much fucking rules. Murder music, indeed. The album hits May 10th.
And as you know, “Arthur” comes out this Friday and it boasts a pretty strong soundtrack with a bunch of Mark Ronson produced tracks (in case you missed it, you can listen to one of those tunes here) as well as a brand new tune from Ben Gibbard, “When The Sun Goes Down,” which Some Kind Of Awesome have debuted. But there doesn’t seem to be an official soundtrack for this thing yet? Weird. Oh yeah, and finally, Rolling Stone has a listen at OK Go‘s “The Greatest Song I Ever Heard” from Morgan Spurlock‘s “POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.” But it’s not embeddable so you’ll have to go over there to hear it.
