Say what you will about Kevin Smith‘s love/hate relationship with the press, but putting all that aside, “Red State” looks good and is a much needed new direction for the helmer.
Smith is currently doing press rounds in the lead up to the road show presentation of “Red State” that will kick off next month, and he’s just dropped an clip from the film on MTV. It’s definitely an uncomfortable glimpse at the film as it shows Melissa Leo — who plays Sarah, the daughter of Pastor Abin Cooper — plying some very young guys with beer before they have sex. The scene definitely makes you want to take a shower. Though our man at Sundance called the film an ambitious but flawed attempt at horror, we still remain curious about what Smith has cooked up.
Starring Kevin Pollak, Michael Parks, Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano, Steven Root and John Goodman, the film follows a group of kids who encounter a crazed preacher (based on Fred Phelps, founder of the Westboro Baptist Church) who gives a whole new meaning to the term “extreme fundamentalism.” “Red State” hits the road next month starting in New York on March 5th with a screening at Radio City Music Hall.
