With just over a month to go until Zack Snyder‘s “Sucker Punch,” this writer thinks Warner Bros. still has a lot of work to do. The brainchild of Snyder the film is an ambitious fantasy action pic but the marketing still doesn’t look like it’s doing anything but appealing to the niche of fans who are already sold on the film. Basically, to anyone who hasn’t been following the film, they won’t have any clue what this blitzkrieg of images and music actually means. As one of the Playlist better halves asked us recently: “Is that the medieval Spice Girls movie?”
The latest spot is pretty much a music video (it’s referred to as the “Trailer Painter” whatever that means) as it takes “Panic Switch” by Silversun Pickups and then edits a bunch of explosions and other stuff to the music. Sadly, none if it is memorable. It’s an entirely disposable spot that for us indicates a film brimming with lots and lots of eye candy fighting for attention. Starring Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Scott Glenn and Oscar Isaac, it centers on a girl who enters an alternate reality with her friends and begins planning an escape from a mental institution where she was put by her evil stepfather who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. From there, robots, dragons, airplanes, WWI battlefields and schoolboy fantasies all come into play as the quintet of girls kick ass in a CGI-filled landscape.
Anyhow, see it for yourself below. The film opens on March 25th.
