Watch: New Trailer For Todd Haynes’ HBO Mini-Series ‘Mildred Pierce’ Starring Kate Winslet

Looks like HBO have raised the stakes with the latest trailer for Todd Haynes‘ highly anticipated five-part HBO mini-series, an adaptation of James M. Cain‘s “Mildred Pierce,” which will star Kate Winslet in the titular role along side Evan Rachel Wood, Guy Pearce and Melissa Leo.

While the first teaser trailer predominantly centered on Mildred’s deteriorating relationship with daughter Veda, the latest one paints a broader picture beginning with her divorce, her relationship with Guy Pearce‘s character and her maverick workplace industriousness. Even with less screen time, Wood looks to be a real spanner in the works here, possibly her greatest platform to shine since the acclaim she garnered from Darren Aronofsky‘s “The Wrestler,” while Winslet looks great as usual and is strongly tipped to give a tour-de-force performance similar to that of Joan Crawford‘s Oscar-winning turn in Michael Curtiz‘s 1948 noir classic.

The film will follow Mildred, a 1930s housewife who separates from her unemployed husband, and, with her children in tow, strikes out on her own. While she achieves great financial success in the restaurant business, her relationship with her eldest daughter, Veda, becomes strained when she takes for granted the status they’ve attained. Brian O’Byrne, James LeGros, Mare Winningham and Hope Davis also co-star with Haynes scribing with Kelly Reichardt regular Jon Raymond.

“Mildred Pierce” is set to premiere next month and is surely an out-and-out frontrunner at next year’s Emmy Awards. [via BBCAmerica]
