A couple of trailers to bring you into your weekend and yeah, they couldn’t be more different, but they also deal with fantasy in their own unique way so allow us to use that as the thread the keeps these together. Alright, then.
First up, a U.K. trailer for Luc Besson‘s imaginative and enjoyable looking “The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec.” Starring the gorgeous Louise Bourgoin, the film is based on one of the first stories in a ongoing series by French comic artist Jacques Tardi focused on a cynical novelist-turned-journalist who faces off crooks, politicians, demo worshippers and mad scientists when a 136-year-old pterodactyl hatches in Paris in 1912. And yeah, this thing looks like a blast, a full-tilt Gallic, female-led “Indiana Jones“-type deal. ‘Adèle Blanc-Sec’ has already opened in a number of other territories but is still without U.S. distribution. We suppose having a female lead who kicks ass and smokes might make Hollywood nervous but we hope someone takes a chance on it. For you Brit folk, the film opens on April 22nd.
Next is a trailer for “The Big Bang,” a bonkers noir acid trip that looks kind of terrible. The film stars Antonio Banderas as a detective whose investigation into the death of a stripper who no one has ever seen is compounded by the fact that everyone he talks to ends up dead. William Fichtner, Sienna Guillory, Bill Duke, James Van Der Beek, Sam Elliott, Delroy Lindo and Snoop Dogg co-star in the movie that unfortunately has a “Southland Tales” vibe (i.e. lots of stuff going on, little coherence). Perhaps more intriguingly, Johnny Marr has penned the score which he described as “atmospheric and Warp [Records]-like” — so there’s that. The film will hit theaters very soon, arriving in the second quarter of 2011 courtesy of Anchor Bay. Both trailers below. [FirstShowing/Cinema Blend]
