Watch: Trailer For ‘Win Win’ Is A Win Win

Well, you can go ahead and sign us up. Tom McCarthy is one of our favorite directors and Fox Searchlight has just dropped a trailer for his latest, “Win Win,” and it looks like another solid entry in the helmer’s growing filmography of tender, winning dramedies.

Starring Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan, Bobby Cannavale, Jeffrey Tambor, Burt Young, Melanie Lynskey, Alex Schaffer, Margo Martindale and David Thompson, the film focuses on an attorney and volunteer high school wrestling coach (Giamatti) forced to look after a client’s errant grandson. The casting here looks pitch perfect, particularly the trio of Giamatti/Ryan/Cannavale with the latter once again reminding us how great and under-utilized he is. The overall tone seems perfectly tuned, and the spot had us pretty much right from its opening moments. The pic premiered at Sundance to strong notices (including one from us) and will next hit SXSW before opening on March 18th. And oh yeah, indie faves The National recorded a new song for the film. Full synopsis and trailer below (or in HD at Apple).

Tom McCarthy, acclaimed writer/ director of THE VISITOR and THE STATION AGENT, once again explores the depths and nuances of human relationships in his new film about the allegiances and bonds between unlikely characters. Disheartened attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, stumbles across a star athlete through some questionable business dealings while trying to support his family. Just as it looks like he will get a double payday, the boy’s mother shows up fresh from rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything. McCarthy’s deft touch with balancing drama and comedy, broken hearts and poignant humanity is at play in WIN WIN.
