Watch: Trailer For Woody Allen’s ‘Midnight In Paris’ Is Basically ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’

And That’s Just Fine

While Terrence Malick‘s “The Tree Of Life” continues to dominate the attention around this year’s Cannes Film Festival, you’ll be forgiven if you forgot that the event will kick off with Woody Allen‘s “Midnight In Paris” — and lo and behold, a trailer has now arrived for the film.

London and Barcelona have so far served as muses for Allen’s European flavored (and financed) efforts, and while “Midnight In Paris” feels essentially like a France-set riff on “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” we don’t mind too much. It’s breezy, charming and made us smile and if it’s 90 odd minutes of Allen photographing one of the most beautiful cities in the world, we can’t complain too much. Starring a huge ensemble of A-list talent and Gallic stars including Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Michael Sheen, Adrien Brody, Nina Arianda, Corey Stoll, Mimi Kennedy, Kurt Fullerby, Carla Bruni, Léa Seydoux and French comedians Gad Elmaleh and Manu Payet, “Midnight In Paris” is a romantic comedy that follows a family traveling to the titular city for business, including a young engaged couple who have their lives transformed throughout the journey. The film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better.

The Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 11th and if you can’t make it to France, the film will hit theaters on May 20th. Trailer below.
