Duncan Jones‘ forthcoming “Source Code” is certainly one we’re looking forward to. We were impressed by his brainy, minimal, yet thrilling “Moon” and are eager to see where his talents take him on a much broader scale. And he’s certainly surrounded himself with some pretty heavyweight talent. Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan and Jeffrey Wright all star in the upcoming film that follows a man who is part of an experimental government program investigating a terrorist incident. He finds himself in the body of an unknown commuter living and reliving a harrowing train bombing until he can find who is responsible for the attack. But it looks like one man who contributed a vital ingredient to the success of “Moon” won’t be back.
Composer Clint Mansell has been replaced by Chris Bacon for scoring duties on “Source Code” due to unspecified “scheduling conflicts.” The news is a bummer as Mansell is certainly one of our favorites. This year has been a quieter one than usual with three films boasting a Mansell credit hitting screens, but when one of them is the magnificent soundtrack to “Black Swan” we’d say you take as much time as you please.
Chris Bacon is certainly a new name to our ears and a quick look at his IMDb page reveals only a small handful of feature film compositions to date including “Love Ranch,” “Waking Sleeping Beauty” and upcoming “Gnomeo & Juliet.” “Source Code” will definitely be a major boost for the composer and we imagine that Jones has faith in Bacon to bring him aboard with the release looming only a few months away.
