Christian Bale Says ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Likely To Be His Last Film As Batman

With “The Dark Knight Rises” gearing up to go in front of cameras next spring and Christian Bale doing the press rounds — as much as he doesn’t really want to — for “The Fighter” opening on December 10th, it’s inevitable that he will be asked endlessly about the third installment of Christopher Nolan‘s Batman franchise. And while he won’t spill too many details (and really, he doesn’t have a script yet so we’re not sure how much he could say anyway) he did drop a minor bomb in his most recent conversation with E!.

Regarding his future wearing the Bat-codpiece, Bale says, “The thing is that this will be, I believe, unless Chris says different, this will be the last time I’m playing Batman.”

Of course, that is far from the final word. Though the Nolan-helmed franchise has always been viewed as being a trilogy, with “The Dark Knight Rises” pretty much guaranteed to be a smash sensation, we’re pretty sure Warner Bros. will eventually drive dump trucks full of money and unicorns to Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale’s front door to get them to return. But three is a good number, and as much as we really like the Batman franchise,we’d love to see Nolan tackling more of his own original ideas on the big screen. At any rate, you can watch Bale’s interview with the irritating Ben Lyons below and it looks like Bale hasn’t quite shaken the Boston accent just yet.
